Giants of Africa 2025: Rwanda and Mali Crowned Champions in Kigali Basketball Showdown
Kigali, Rwanda — Rwanda’s boys team and Mali’s girls team were crowned champions at the 2025 edition of the Giants of Africa Festival, following an exciting week of basketball competition held at Zaria Court, Kigali’s premier indoor sports facility.
This year’s festival brought together 320 young athletes from 20 African countries, showcasing the continent’s rising basketball talent. It marked the second consecutive year that Rwanda hosted the event, reinforcing Kigali’s growing reputation as a center for sports and youth empowerment in Africa.
Rwanda Triumphs in Boys’ Final
The home crowd had reason to celebrate as Team Rwanda (boys) defeated Team Senegal with a narrow victory of 27–24 in the final. The win earned Rwanda the championship trophy and highlighted the country’s investment in youth sports development.
Mali Dominates Girls’ Division
In the girls’ final, Team Mali claimed the title after overcoming Team Senegal with a solid 20–16 win. The match demonstrated Mali’s strength in women’s basketball and its growing influence in youth sports on the continent.
MVP Awards: Stars Shine Bright
As part of the festival’s finale, an All-Star Game featuring a mix of top-performing boys and girls was held. Two standout athletes received the prestigious Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards:
- Kayijuka Dylan (Rwanda) – Boys’ MVP, recognized for his leadership and game-winning plays throughout the tournament.
- Oummou Koumare (Mali) – Girls’ MVP, celebrated for her dominance on the court and consistent performance.
Grand Finale Concert Set for August 2
The Giants of Africa Festival 2025 will officially close on August 2 with a highly anticipated musical concert at BK Arena. African music superstars including The Ben, Timaya, Kizz Daniel, and Ayra Starr will headline the show, which is expected to draw a massive crowd from across the continent.
This year’s edition of Giants of Africa has not only elevated young talent but also highlighted Kigali’s capacity to host major international youth and sports events.
