Huye District, Rwanda – July 30, 2025 — The Rwanda National Police (RNP), in collaboration with local authorities and residents from Gishamvu and Ngoma sectors, has arrested nine young men suspected of engaging in criminal activities that threaten public safety, including house break-ins and street robberies.
According to CIP Hassan Kamanzi, the Police Spokesperson for the Southern Province, the arrest was made possible thanks to community intelligence. Local residents provided timely information, allowing police to launch a targeted operation that led to the suspects’ capture.
“These individuals are suspected of violent crimes such as ambushing and robbing pedestrians, as well as breaking into homes,” CIP Kamanzi told intyoza.com.
Weapons Recovered During the Arrest
During the operation, authorities seized several homemade weapons, including:
- Machetes
- Iron bars
- Clubs
- Other tools commonly used in break-ins and assaults.
Police Commend Community Collaboration
CIP Kamanzi thanked the residents for their active cooperation, stressing that the fight against crime depends heavily on public involvement.
“We commend the public for their continued support. Timely and accurate reporting helps prevent crime and ensures that those who break the law are brought to justice,” he said.
Zero Tolerance for Criminal Behavior
Rwanda Police issued a stern warning to would-be offenders, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy for any illegal acts. CIP Kamanzi urged all citizens to engage in lawful activities, warning that those who refuse to change their ways will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.
“The law is clear — anyone who chooses to break it will face the consequences. The police will not tolerate lawlessness,” he added.
Ongoing Investigation
All nine suspects were immediately handed over to the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) station in Ngoma Sector, where investigations are underway to compile the necessary case files for prosecution.
