Two men suspected of murdering security guards during a robbery in Rwamagana District were shot dead in the early hours of Monday morning after resisting security officers. The incident occurred in Marembo Village, Nyarukombe Cell, Muyumbu Sector.
According to reports, the suspects were being escorted by police to reveal the location of stolen items and the tools they allegedly used in the killings.
At the end of July, the pair allegedly broke into a liquor depot and murdered two guards on duty, identified as Mudaheranwa Venuste and Bizimana Mark. Investigations suggest they attacked the guards with ropes and metal objects before stealing goods from the facility.
Eastern Province Police Spokesperson, SP Hamdun Twizeyimana, confirmed the shooting to UKWELITIMES, stating:
“They were arrested in the early hours today while being taken to reveal where they had hidden the stolen liquor. Upon arrival, they started resisting the police officers guarding them, and they were shot.”
SP Twizeyimana further explained that the suspects had been about to disclose the location of 300 crates of Bralirwa drinks and an EBM machine when they attempted to strangle the officers using handcuffs, prompting the shooting.
Authorities confirmed that both men were directly involved in the recent murder and robbery in Muyumbu.
