Mutagoma: Rising Gospel Artist Making Waves in Rwanda

The song “Haratsinda Intwarane” has positioned Mutagoma as one of the most promising new voices in Rwanda’s Gospel music scene. Known for his lyrical depth, vocal talent, and high-quality visuals, the song has already attracted over 54,000 views on YouTube and close to 100 comments from fans.

The chorus has especially touched listeners, helping them draw closer to God in prayer and faith. One fan, Tuyirate Honore, commented: “A truly powerful song that draws me into the presence of God and reminds me of His glory.”

Mutagoma’s Journey in Gospel Music

Born Noel Mutagoma, the artist is popularly known simply as Mutagoma. He is married to Mignonne Igihozo, whom he wed in 2023.

His music journey began during the COVID-19 pandemic, when he and friends held small praise and worship sessions. It was there that others noticed his talent and encouraged him to pursue music. His first release came in 2022, and so far he has three singles: “Umusaraba”, “Iziyerekana”, and “Haratsinda Intwarane”. He is also set to release a new song titled “Iryo Jwi”.

A member of Christian Worship Center Kanombe, Mutagoma says his mission is to “spread the good news of God’s love and to inspire spiritual growth through music.”

His Faith and Values

Grounded in the Bible, Mutagoma focuses on Gospel music as a tool for salvation and transformation. His ultimate goal is to see more people turn from sin and embrace Christianity, echoing Daniel 12:3: “Those who lead many to righteousness will shine like the stars forever.”

His guiding principles are:

  1. Faith – Believing in God’s love above all creation.
  2. Love – Sharing Christ’s love with everyone he meets.
  3. Humility – Recognizing human weakness and living in reverence to God.

Personal Life and Career

  • Born on December 25, 1996 in Kirehe District, Eastern Province, Rwanda.
  • Grew up in Kayonza, where he completed primary and secondary school.
  • Now aged 29.
  • Studied Marketing at the University of Rwanda, later pursuing short courses in Optical Dispensing (eye care).
  • He and his wife run Reign Optical, a Kigali-based business selling medically approved eyewear.

Mutagoma says marriage has shaped his spiritual growth and taught him patience, forgiveness, and deeper love.

Support from His Wife

Mutagoma credits much of his progress to his wife, Mignonne, for her unwavering support. He shared: “She never complains when I spend on music production. Instead, she encourages me, knowing tomorrow will be brighter for my career.”

Vision for the Future

Looking ahead five years, Mutagoma dreams of:

  • Spreading the Gospel internationally through his music.
  • Mentoring young Gospel artists to nurture their talent and faith.
  • Creating a platform to inspire Christians to grow spiritually through worship.

He emphasizes that his focus is not fame, but winning souls for Christ.

Mutagoma’s Dream Collaboration with Meddy

Among the artists he looks up to, Meddy tops the list. Mutagoma revealed: “If I ever collaborate with Meddy, I’d feel complete—it would be a huge blessing.”

Meddy, once a mainstream artist, has now fully returned to Gospel and released hits like “Blessed”, “Ni Yo Ndirimbo” (ft. Adrien Misigaro), and “Grateful.”

Upcoming Release: “Iryo Jwi”

Currently, Mutagoma is preparing to release his latest single “Iryo Jwi”, already distributed to international streaming platforms. The video was produced as a live recording, featuring well-known Gospel singers.
