Lenacapavir Priced at $40 Annually in Low-Income Countries to Boost HIV Prevention

it was announced that the breakthrough HIV prevention drug Lenacapavir will be made available for just $40 (about 56,000 Rwandan francs) per person annually in low- and middle-income countries.

The initiative comes through a partnership between Unitaid, the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), and Wits RHI.

Former U.S. President Bill Clinton hailed the move as “a major breakthrough” for patients, doctors, and health systems. Rwanda’s Minister of Health, Dr. Sabin Nsanzimana, also welcomed the new price, calling it a critical milestone in Africa’s fight against HIV/AIDS.

Administered twice a year, Lenacapavir has shown near 100% effectiveness in preventing HIV and is expected to help reduce the 1.3 million new infections recorded globally each year.
