DR Congo President Tshisekedi Leaves Uganda Ceremony Before Guest Recognition

Félix Tshisekedi unexpectedly left Uganda before the official recognition of foreign guests during the swearing-in ceremony attended by several African leaders.

Presidents and government representatives from across the region attended the event, including leaders from Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania, Burundi, and Rwanda.

During the ceremony, Uganda’s Vice President was introducing dignitaries who had traveled to witness Yoweri Museveni take oath when officials realized Tshisekedi had already departed.

After reading his name, the Vice President reportedly stated:

“He has already left.”

Reports indicate that Tshisekedi rushed to attend an Africa-France summit taking place in Nairobi, Kenya, where Emmanuel Macron was representing France.

As a result, the Congolese leader did not remain for the closing moments of the ceremony, during which other presidents congratulated Museveni after the inauguration event concluded.
